sweetness: a fairy tale
Sweetness A Fairy Tale is loosely based on the life of our Author, Dulcinea Lee Hellings. Her father lived in Puerto Rico for 20 years with her step mom, Audrey. He was a skilled architect and started building all over the island, eventually finishing with his masterpiece, The Castle of Rincon. The family spent many Holidays and vacations there over the years and were well known on the island.
They were a tight knit crew, for the most part, but you can imagine what money and jealousy can do to people sometimes.
The daughters always joked that one of them was adopted because they were so different in every way. And when the stepmom started deteriorating from dementia, those differences became glaringly obvious. One sister greedily focused on power and fortune, the other one looking for happiness, peace, and love to all.
Both the stepmom and the author’s birth mom passed within a few years of each other. They both had been married to the father for a few decades each and were able to keep their relationship amicable for the family. Things stayed peaceful for sometime, until the stepmom couldn’t remember the father anymore and he decided to get a new girlfriend. The new female dynamic did not jive well for some people.
Remember, this is just a fairy tale, however the real life version of this story does include some elements like: cows, goats, castles, love, villains, lightening, and lies.
